Although Medellin is already the third largest city of choice for tourism of domestic and foreign -behind Bogota and Cartagena-, this indicator is experiencing an interesting rise during Christmas time.

The hotel infrastructure, paisa gastronomy and the friendliness of Antioquians are definitive factors so that Medellin has 9.6 percent of the national tourist interest. According to data from the tourism indicators system, SITUR, in December of last year, to the 'bella villa' arrived 11,460 foreigners. This year is projected an increase of 5 percent.
The city is ready and works all year in this regard. Therefore promotion strategies are defined, says Adriana Gonzalez, director of Medellin Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We work in three areas: attracting events of national and international level, in which we offer to the city as an appropriate target for organizing different types of events, mainly academics, both nationally and internationally."

The second has to do with the holiday tourism, with a target directed to the domestic market, in coordination with the Department. The third strategy involves the promotion of fairs in the city, like Las Flores, Tango Festival and, of course, with the lighting of December, where visitors find a wide range of activities.

SITUR data also indicate that hotel occupancy during this month will reach 58.13 percent.

Sites that have more assistance are: the Medellín River corridor, which is simultaneously the place where lighting activities are concentrated, the northern area, the Botanical Garden, the Orquideorama; Explora Park and "Parque de los deseos".
